If you’re looking to experience the serene beauty of the Wye Valley this autumn, Stage 12 of the Wye Valley Walk South from Boughrood Brest to Glasbury is a stunning choice. This peaceful stretch is ideal for those seeking a mix of gentle countryside, riverside vistas, and autumnal woodland.
Starting at Boughrood Brest, this part of the route takes you alongside the River Wye, offering breathtaking views of the winding river and surrounding hills. The path guides you past picturesque meadows and charming woodlands, where you can immerse yourself in the rich colors of autumn. You may even spot local wildlife, with kingfishers, common sandpiper, otters, grey wagtail and herons often frequenting this section of the river. On our short walk we saw a heron, ducks, robins and some dragonflies.

The landscape provides sweeping views of the Black Mountains in the distance. It’s an easy yet rewarding walk, quite easy walking, mainly on woodland riverside paths or field edge paths, with this section ending in the charming village of Glasbury. You could choose to walk only part of it like we did (a 4 year olds legs don’t walk that far) or further for a full day.
Whether you’re a seasoned walker or a casual explorer, this section is a perfect way to embrace the beauty of the Wye Valley this season! 🍂
